Stop Betting Sports (SBS) was created by clinicians who see the real impact of sports betting on young people, families, and mental health. We offer structured pauses, practical tools, and moderated discussion — anonymous, nonjudgmental, and action-focused.

Who’s behind Stop Betting Sports

Stop Betting Sports is led by clinicians with direct experience treating gambling addiction.

SBS Is an independent non profit (501) c 3 who’s mission is to reduce sports betting related harm through live support, prevention tools and referral to accessible mental health resources.

Deborah Buhaj, ASW

Co-Founder & Executive Director

Deborah has trained with the UCLA Gambling Studies Program and actively treats individuals and families impacted by gambling disorder. Her clinical work focuses on sports betting, iGaming, recovery skill development, and family systems affected by gambling-related harm.

Beyond treatment, Deborah is an advocate for youth-oriented prevention and public health education. She works to raise awareness about the rapid expansion of sports betting and its disproportionate impact on young men and families. Through research collaboration, school-based initiatives, and national prevention programming, she aims to shift the conversation around gambling from individual failure to systemic mental health concern.

Deborah is committed to building responsible, evidence-informed prevention infrastructure that protects the next generation from gambling-related harm.

Dan Field, LCSW

Co-Founder

Licensed Clinical Social Worker with 15+ years of experience working with problem gamblers and families. Dan supports clinical programming, referral pathways, and family education, drawing from extensive frontline experience.

Join a weekly live zoom conversation with Dan, designed specifically for parents, partners and loved ones concerned about a family members sports betting. Dan brings clinical expertise along with practical knowledge of community resources and treatment options grounded in his work with hundreds of families affected by problem gambling.
